At Foxes’ Retreat we host residential quilting retreats tutored by Cait Lisle Designs

Weekend fully catered residential courses to kick start, expand or hone your quilting skills.


Specialising in fresh designs for modern quilters, Cait loves playing with traditional piecing techniques to give them a new and modern twist and creating patterns that everyone from beginners to lifelong quilters enjoy making. Introduction to Quilting Taster

This two-day (Fri 24th to Sun 26th March) course is the perfect introduction to quilting methods and techniques. Covering machine piecing. foundation paper piecing, basting and an introduction to machine quilting, the weekend will finish off with completing a small quilt sampler. You will produce a range of samples to take home with you and will be given some suggestions on how to put your newfound skills to use in future projects.

Overview and equipment list always sent out ahead of the retreats.

Friday

Evening - Settle into your room, find your way around the farm before dinner

Saturday

Breakfast - Freshly baked bread, fruit, yoghurt, home-mixed muesli, toast and home-made jam/marmalade

10-10.45 Course overview and discussion of aims/objectives/motivations; overview of using/threading a sewing machine and rotary cutting safety

10.45am -12.30pm – Introduction to machine piecing

12.30pm -1.30pm – Lunch

1.30pm - 4.30pm –Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing

4.30pm -7pm – Optional walk through Okeover Park to stretch out and clear the mind / personal time with access to sewing space if you want to keep sewing**

7pm – Dinner

Evening – personal time with access to sewing space if you want to keep sewing**

Sunday

Breakfast - Freshly baked bread, fruit, yoghurt, home-mixed muesli, toast and home-made jam/marmalade

10am - 10.30am – Basting

10.30am - 1230pm Introduction to machine quilting

12.30pm-1.30pm – Lunch

1.30pm - 3.30pm – Finishing your quilt

3-3.30 – Wrap up session

These are practical sewing sessions led by Cait and can be tailored to suit your goals and aims for your retreat

** Supported sewing time

This is time for you to work alone, but knowing that you can shout and have some help, even if you just need a sounding board to check you’re on the right track

Next Steps Quilting Retreat

This two-day (Fri 23rd to Sun 25th June) course is the perfect development for a variety of quilting methods and techniques. Covering sewing curves, inset curves, triangles and half-rectangle triangles, the weekend will finish off with a Foundation Paper Piecing workshop. You will produce a range of samples to take home with you and will be given some suggestions on how to put your newfound skills to use in future projects.

Space To Quilt

‘Space to Quilt’ is a weekend break that gives you the time and space you need to quilt, whether it is finishing a long-time Work In Progress or getting started on something new. This is time for you to work alone, but knowing that you can shout and have some expert help, whether you just need a sounding board or want to check a specific technique.

*There may be Introduction to Quilting sessions going on during your stay.
