The Faces of Foxes’ Retreat

Ready to celebrate life with you!

Mysżka

Writer, teacher, psychotherapist…

I am currently editing my historical novel, and have a contemporary novel in process too!

Adam and I both welcome visitors to our home, at Foxes’ Retreat, to enjoy this tranquil space with us, and with our friendly menagerie.

Whether you choose to visit for a peaceful self-catering stay in The Hayloft, a Writing or Yoga Retreat, or an activity break in the Peak District National Park, the welcome you receive will be warm and friendly. We are now offering quilting teaching by Cait Lisle too! Please see below for her details.

I continue to hold a lifelong fascination with the way we all use language - whether it is to write for our own enjoyment, for work, or to share ideas with others on paper, or verbally to tell our stories. Using my nineteen years of teaching writing in a variety of settings, alongside my Psychology training, my intention is to create a holistic approach to nurturing writers at all stages of their journey.

I practice yoga alongside my lifelong passion of riding horses, as I like to keep fit both physically and emotionally. It is a pleasure to share our home with others, and to see them relax and find a space in which to connect with themselves away from their usual busy daily routine.

I look forward to meeting you, and to being along side you on your journey.

Adam Fox (aka Mr Fox)

Writer, Electrician, coder, inventor

I am usually to be found tinkering with a new gadget, installing a time saving device, or pondering an eco-solution to community problems.

Late at night, or in a quiet moment, I put pen to paper. I find it therapeutic and exciting to write, and I enjoy sharing writing with others, especially in a relaxing atmosphere around a real fire.

I am an author of fantasy novels and historical fiction-non-fiction novels.

The fantasy series, Vardo, explores the hidden fae realm where the elves and other creatures have found sanctuary after the middle ages and the industrialisation of Europa.
When I'm not inventing things or wiring stuff up, I'm writing, or out and about on Lucy the horse, exploring the hidden byeways and the deeper wooded sections of the Peak District.

I am part of the Foxes' Retreat literary team.

*Mr Fox’s own writing website can be found here…. with a mailing list, newsletters and sneak peaks on his latest works, including Vardo Witch (publication date 15th November 2023), Vardo Path, and Vardo Moon! Adam Fox Author

Caitlin Lisle

Quilter

I find inspiration everywhere I look, from other quilts to paintings and even shadows on floor tiles! I love playing with traditional piecing techniques to give them a fresh modern twist and creating patterns that everyone from beginners to life-long quilters can enjoy making.

I teach a variety of introductory and intermediate classes at quilt shops across Cambridgeshire, as well as residential classes at Foxes’ Retreat. I teach at the Festival of Quilts (NEC, Birmingham) and Stitch and Sew (Alexandra Palace, London).

As a member of the Quilter's Guild of the British Isles (QGBI), I recently became a Committee member of the Modern Quilt Group.

Commissioned patterns of mine are regularly featured in Love Patchwork and Quilting, Make Modern and QuiltCon Magazines.

I regularly exhibit at the Festival of Quilts (at the NEC) and at Quilt Con (USA).

Behind the scenes at Foxes’ Retreat, we have a vital team supporting us and our horses, and whose work allows us to recharge to be our very best to support you

  • Charlotte Jordan, Professional Groom

Charlotte also house sits for us.

We are delighted to have her taking good care of our place when we are away, as well as keeping the yard impeccably on her weekdays here.

Having Charlotte look after the animals so well gives us peace of mind to take time out for ourselves. It also gives us the freedom to work more intensively with Retreat guests when required during residential events.

  • Russell Chadwick

Russ is our trusted farrier to our horses, keeping their feet healthy and sound. I have known Russ since I had my first pony, in the 1980s, and was delighted to find him again when I moved back to this area.

Without a skilled and reliable farrier, our horses would not remain fit and healthy for us to enjoy.

  • Holly Shann, Veterinary Physiotherapist

Perfect Gait Veterinary Physiotherapy was founded by Holly Shann, a veterinary physiotherapist who completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Physiotherapy at the University of Nottingham, where she is continuing to study towards an MSc.

Foxes’ Retreat is home to Mysżka and Adam, along with their horses, dogs, cats and chickens.

All of us look forward to greeting you warmly.
